About Our Services

For nearly 150 years, Christians have been meeting to worship God in our beautiful church building, in the peaceful setting of Galleywood Common.

We are a family-friendly Church of England church, where everyone is welcome and valued, and can find a place to call "home". We are a sssshhhh-free church, so we especially welcome children – please don't worry if they make a bit of noise! And we are an informal church, so don't worry if you need to turn up a bit late for some reason, or if you're not sure what to do. Everyone receives a warm welcome at St Michael’s!

We worship in the Open Evangelical tradition, which means we especially value four main things: (1) reading and teaching the Bible, (2) proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping people to come to faith in him, (3) serving the needs of our community, and (4) being gracious when there are disagreements between us, and between us and others.

There are two services on Sunday mornings:

8.30am: Holy Communion, according to the traditional words of the Book of Common Prayer. This is a quiet reflective service, without songs. (This service doesn’t run on the 2nd Sunday in each month.)

10am: Our main worship service, with our Sunday School group for Primary-aged children called SONlight, and on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month we have a group for secondary school age children called Mega. We celebrate Holy Communion in this service on the 2nd Sunday in each month. Everyone is welcome to stay for tea, coffee, biscuits and sometimes cake after the service. This service is also live-streamed on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/St-Michaels-Church-Galleywood-224907067678624

During the week we also have two prayer meetings:

Tuesdays at 9.30am: Morning Prayer, via Zoom. This is a short service focussed on prayer and reflecting on the Bible passages set for the day in the Church of England Lectionary. (Zoom details are sent out via our e-mail list the day before.)

Wednesdays at 9am (on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in each month): This is an informal time of prayer at 9.00 am in the Church on the second and fourth Wednesday each month. It’s a time of quiet reflection listening to God and to each other. All are welcome as we explore together the wonderful mystery of prayer. See Sue Kitson suektsn9@gmail.com for more details

As part of the South West Chelmsford Churches group of five churches, we also take part in joint services with our partner churches at 4.30pm every 2nd Sunday of the month (locations and service styles vary). Refreshments are served from 4pm.
