St Michael’s CofE Junior School

St Michael’s School is our church school. We lead weekly assemblies in School, and four special services each year in Church (for Harvest, Christmas, Easter and the end of the school year). We also run a weekly lunch-time club called Fusion for Year 6 pupils.

The Church presents each pupil with a Bible when they join the School in Year 3. Their Bible has their name on, and will stay in school until they leave at the end of the Year 6, at which point they can keep their Bible.

St Michael’s Church also takes part in the governance of the school by providing several volunteers to be members of the Governing Body (which appoints the Headteacher, sets vision and direction for the school, maintains the school’s Christian ethos, sets the budget, and oversees the running of the school).

As a Voluntary Aided Church of England school, the School needs to contribute 10% towards any capital expenditure, and St Michael’s Church makes a contribution towards this every year.

At St Michael’s, we believe that the Christian ethos of the School is part of what makes it a great school to belong to. There is a positive and friendly atmosphere, in which every child is valued and helped to reach their full potential, and where staff go above-and-beyond for the children they serve. The Christian values of Love, Respect, Faith, Courage are lived out in the day-to-day life of the School. And the School has been well supported by the St Michael’s Church and by the Diocese of Chelmsford, especially during times of crisis.

The School has its own prayer, which was written by pupils working with Revd David Cattle. The prayer is said regularly in School.

Dear God,

We thank you for Jesus,

who taught us to love and be loved.

We thank you for the gift of faith,

and for the opportunity to have faith in you.

We thank you for respecting us,

and for helping us to respect others.

And we thank you for courage,

so we can face the future with hope.

By your love, may we flourish together,

so we can serve our community and the world.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Galleywood Infant School

St Michael’s Church also supports Galleywood Infant School. We host special services in Church and school for Christmas and Easter, and we lead assemblies for special events, such as on the deaths of Prince Philip and they Queen Elizabeth II.
